Application and Enrollment Process
How do I access myUMBC account to accept my enrollment, scholarships and financial aid, and sign up for Orientation?
You should log into your myUMBC account at my.umbc.edu. If you forgot your password or have any trouble accessing your myUMBC portal, please reach out to our Technology Support Center at 410-455-3838.
Will UMBC award credit for my AP exam score?
UMBC will continue to award credit and/or placement based on the scores indicated on UMBC’s list of approved Advanced Placement (AP) examinations. To receive credit for AP exams, you must have an official Advanced Placement score report sent to the UMBC Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
Will UMBC be “test-optional” for the 2020 – 2021 application cycle?
UMBC will still require standardized testing for first-year students applying for admission. Students should plan to test whenever tests are available.
How should I submit necessary documents like transcripts and test scores for my application to UMBC?
We know that for many applicants, it may not be possible at this time to have official documents mailed to UMBC. Below, you’ll find information on what you need to know about submitting various information:
Transcripts: Please email your unofficial transcripts to email@example.com. Our counselors will read and issue decisions based on these unofficial documents, although you’ll still need to submit your official transcripts once you have access to do so.
Standardized Test Scores: We are accepting unofficial test scores for the SAT, ACT, TOEFL, IELTS, AP, IB, etc. Please send a PDF copy of your score sheet from the testing provider’s secure website to firstname.lastname@example.org.
How will I receive my application decision letter?
We will be sending your decision letter through email. You may also check your application status online using your myUMBC account.
Will UMBC still be holding Orientation?
Orientation for all incoming first-year and transfer students will be moving to a virtual format to protect your health while also enabling us to continue to provide the academic and social support you will need to successfully transition to our UMBC community. Through a number of different tools and resources, you’ll foster meaningful and consistent connections with each other and our community, and register for Fall 2020 classes. If I choose not to enroll this Fall, can I defer my enrollment to the Spring or Fall of 2021?
Yes, you can change your start term by emailing your request to firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are granted a deferral, you must maintain your first-year status (i.e., you should not be attending another college or university, although you can take up to 11 credits after your high school graduation). If you attend another college or university, you will need to reapply as a transfer student. Additionally, in order to hold your place in a future term, you are required to pay your full enrollment deposit. If applicable, you must separately request a deferral of your UMBC Scholarship by completing the UMBC Scholarship Deferral Request Form as soon as possible.
My family’s financial circumstances have changed since I submitted the FAFSA. Would I be reconsidered for more financial aid?
We encourage you to connect with your financial aid counselor to determine whether or not your specific situation would be eligible for an appeal. Financial aid counselors are assigned by last name and can be reached through the Financial Aid website.

How can I contact the UMBC Admissions Office?
While the physical Admissions office is closed, please send your questions and concerns via email to email@example.com and we will respond to your message within 24 hours. We do not currently recommend reaching out by phone since we are not on campus and are unable to answer.

Is UMBC still hosting on-campus events and tours?
All in-person events and tours are suspended for the remainder of the spring semester. We are actively working to create opportunities for you to engage with our admissions team online and to get you the information you need. We encourage you to review our Campus Visit and Events page for updates, as well as ways to explore campus virtually.
Can I still mail documents related to my application or enrollment to UMBC?
Unfortunately, access to UMBC’s mailroom is extremely limited. Therefore, to expedite the receipt of this information, we’d ask that you please send documents to firstname.lastname@example.org.
